Honoring Civil Rights Struggles: 2014-2015 DISCO Welcome Reception

The Diversity and Identity Studies Collective at OSU invites you to attend its 2014-2015 welcoming event, which will focus on the 50-year anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement.

At 4:00 Chad Allen, Director of DISCO and Associate Dean for Faculty and Research in the Arts and Humanities division of the College of Arts and Sciences, will provide some introductory remarks, and Keith Kilty, Emeritus Professor of Social Work and organizer of the 50 Year Celebration of the Civil Rights Movement, will provide the introduction of the panel program. Each DISCO program has chosen someone to speak about the Civil Rights Movement through a different lens: Chad Allen, Department of English (American Indian Studies); Lynn Itagaki, Departments of English and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (Asian American Studies); Miranda Martinez, Department of Comparative Studies (Latina/-o Studies); Scott Lissner, ADA Coordinator, Office of Diversity and Inclusion (Disability Studies); Wendy Smooth, Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies); Devin Fergus, Department of African American and African Studies (African American Studies); and Daniel Rivers, Department of History (Sexuality Studies).

Geoffrey Smith, head of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, will introduce the library's forthcoming civil rights exhibition and speak about the resources that will be available for this year for our courses and studies.

Light refreshments will be provided.
